For those few remaining holdouts who haven't read my book yet, William W. Berry III of the University of Mississippi School of Law has recently uploaded a paper to SSRN that includes (among other things) a good summary of my main arguments. I haven't read the whole thing yet, so I don't yet know Berry's take, but I thought I'd put a link up all the same.
I don't know much about the subject, but I found it interesting how close the US came to abolition of capital punishment in the early 1970ties. While some of the contributing factors are mentioned in the review (and probably in your book as well) I wonder if you could (as time permits) elaborate how close this actually was and why abolition eventually failed.
