Apropos the plagiarizing defense minister zu Guttenberg, this seems like a good time to relay a rule of thumb from American politics which, I believe, was coined by Michael Kinsley (if I'm wrong, let me know): When a politician denies that he has any intention of resigning for the fourth consecutive time during the same scandal, his resignation is imminent.
I think Guttenberg's at two now...
So ein rassenhass...ist doch ganz klar: die sozialisten hassen den freiherr!

With his appearance in Kelkheim tonight, he is now at 3.
He won't resign, though.

The reviews on amazon show that not all Germans capable of irony are occupied with pocket knifes.

I don't think he will resign. To plagiarize excessively was incredibly stupid. He lost part of his credibility. That can't be avoided.
As a politician however he has done a decent job so far. He literally abolished single-handedly conscription - although both conservative parties had considered this matter absolutely untouchable.
He is certainly not perfect, but his presence in German politics is refreshing. I hope he will be defeated in the political arena someday for some political failures. But not now for his scientific fallacies.

The whole affair gives the somewhat odd title "defense minister" a completely new meaning.
