It isn't hard to come up with circumstances under which a candidate would be unwilling to support a message on his behalf, though. Think the Log Cabin Republicans publicly endorsing McCain, or the International League of Communist Abortionists airing an Obama commercial...

BTW: Is there some legal requirement for any political ad to have the candidate say that "I'm Johnny Dipshit and I support this message." thing? It would seem highly improbable that a candidate would not support a message on his or her behalf.
